Contest Environment Appliance for VirtualBox
You can practice with the contest environment without installing Ubuntu
directly on your machine by using virtualization software, e.g.,
VirtualBox
or VMware.
If you use VirtualBox, we provide the VirtualBox appliance of the
contest environment so that you can import into your virtualization
system. Note that the appliance file is rather big (about 1.8 GB),
so it may be faster if you install the software using the
installation script as
described here.
The following steps will guide you through the installation.
Step 1. Install VirtualBox
Step 2. Download the IOI2011 appliance
-
Download the VirtualBox appliance:
Step 3. Import the appliance
-
Start Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager.
-
Start importing the appliance: Click File -> Import Appliance....
-
Choose the appliance file that you have downloaded: ioi2011-v1.ova
-
Configure the import settings. The default values are OK;
however, you may want to change the memory size.
-
VirtualBox will import the appliance and when it is done, you will
see ioi2011 in the list of VMs.
Step 3.1 Install missing software
-
If you are using Kate, the current appliance does not
include konsole, so the terminal plugin does not work.
You have to install it yourself using the following command:
sudo apt-get install konsole
We will put the updated version of the appliance soon. (Thanks Егор
Суворов for reporting.)
Step 4. Run it
-
Click Start (the green arrow). You may see some warning
about I/O cache, just ignore it.
-
Log in with user ioi2011, password ioi2011.
-
You will see the contest environment.
