Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana initiated The Promotion of Academic Olympiads and Development of Science Education Foundation under Her Royal Highness's Patronage (POSN). She was keenly interested in supporting and developing the scientific and mathematical talents of Thailand's school children. She created this program to send students to participate in the International Science and Mathematics Olympiads. Thailand first participation in the 30th International Mathematics Olympiad in Germany in 1989. She therefore generously provided funding and moral support, giving much attention to implementation. The activities of the POSN Foundation are a means of sustainable human resource development. Thailand will benefit from a larger number of talented students to participate in international academic competitions.

The Princess was also a staunch supporter of Thai youth participation in the International Olympiads. She was well aware of the importance of developing and promoting Thai students in the international arena.
The Science Society of Thailand was the first organization to select and support for students competition in the International Science and Mathematics Olympiads. At present, this program is coordinated by the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST). In addition, at Her Royal Command, the Science Society also established “The Promotion of Academic Olympiads and Development of Science Education Foundation under The Patronage of H.R.H Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra" (POSN). This foundation arranges science camps and activities for selecting and training talented students to compete in the competition.

Her Royal Highness Princess Sirindhorn Debaratanasuda was born on 2nd April 1955 to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, King Rama IX, and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand.
